Grattamacco, a historic star among the “Super Tuscans of the coast”

Learn all about Grattamacco, a Tuscan estate in the Maremma region located in the Bolgheri DOC, between the villages of Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri.

Podere Grattamacco was founded in 1977 and became the second estate in the history of “Super Tuscans” to develop a “Super Tuscan” in the hills of Bolgheri in 1982—just after the daring Marquis Incisa Della Rocchetta and his Tenuta San Guido (a true pioneer in the field), where the famous Sassicaia was produced. Grattamacco is the work of Meletti Cavallari. A true global ambassador for the Bolgheri DOC since 1994, Podere Grattamacco, with its very first Bolgheri Rosso, became the voice of a whole line of great wines—blending Italian Tuscan grape varieties with international Bordeaux varieties—designed like Bordeaux grands crus. In 2002, Grattamacco became the property of Italian entrepreneur and patron Claudio Tipa, who developed the 29-hectare vineyard, expanded the range of internationally recognized wines, and continued the work of Meletti Cavallari.
