The estate owes its name to the Marquis de Terme in 1762, when he married Elisabeth de Ledoux d'Emplet, at which time the property was separated from the large Rauzan estate of which it was part. By the end of the 18th century, this Fourth Classified Growth of 1855 was already a recognized and highly esteemed estate, if we are to believe the travel diaries of Thomas Jefferson, future third President of the United States, who listed it among the wines he recommended during his visit to Bordeaux in May 1787. In the 19th century, after numerous changes of ownership, the château came into the hands of the Feuillerat family. In the 20th century, Marquis de Terme underwent considerable development under the Sénéclauze family, who acquired it in 1935. This Médoc Classified Growth, still owned by the Sénéclauze family, achieved unprecedented quality with the arrival of its general manager in 2009, Ludovic David, who initiated a thorough rethinking of plot management, integral vinification and improved environmental practices, enabling the estate to express the full potential of its 39 hectares of Margaux terroir. The wines produced are elegant and harmonious.
