Château Magnol 2022 Cru Bourgeois, Haut-Médoc

Appearance

Clear and star bright with an intense dark ruby core and a light purple red rim, dense viscosity with quiet thick tears.

Nose

Attractive nose with fragrant floral scents of violets and an intense dark sweet fruit character – dark sweet plums, Morello cherry, cassis marmalade supported by tempting sweet spices of cinnamon and clove, very fine integrated oak aromatics of gently roasted wood and hint of vanilla. After a few moments in the glass, hints of cedarwood, tobacco and graphite evolve. Despite its youth, the nose already shows a layered complexity.

Palate

The attack is ripe, dense and tight with very compact and broad sandy-textured tannin balanced by very good freshness underneath adding fine sapidity. The palate shows an almost full body with a juicy and weighty midpalate full of sweet dark plums, black cherry and black currant combined with dry spice of clove and liquorice and gently roasted oak character, a mineral presence of graphite and fine earthiness. Very good persistence.

A generous wine with structure and concentration, impressive and dense tannin and very good freshness providing balance. A wine which will gain in complexity through the next 10+ years (or more).

Service temperature: 16–18°C.

The Château Magnol 2022 would be a perfect match with a roasted wild duck in a sweet spice glaze served with a dense Bordelaise sauce, wild berries, black truffle and morel mushrooms.
